Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State on Thursday staged a peaceful protest to register their concerns over the attacks and killings of their members by suspected bandits.
This followed an attack on Tuesday by bandits that led to the death of one of the lecturers of the university, Dr David Gyan, and abduction of two of his children alongside one other female student.
Speaking to pressmen, the chairman of the union, Comrade Dahiru Rabe, said although the university authorities have done their best in providing security to the staff and students of the institution, their best is not enough, hence the need for the government to expedite action towards protecting the lives and properties of the people around the university and its host communities.
“The nature of insecurity we are facing here in Dutsinma is threatening the lives of both the staff and students of the university.

“Only about a week ago, three of our members were kidnapped, but God in his infinite mercy, helped them to escape. And only two days ago (Tuesday) one of our senior colleagues was killed and his children kidnapped alongside one female student,” he said.
