The Niger State government has banned traditional horse riding during festivals and ceremonies across all the eight emirates of the state.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Ahmed Matane said the move followed several complaints received by the government that some unscrupulous elements, under the pretext of celebrations, planned to wreak havoc on law-abiding citizens of the state.

Matane called on the public to comply with the directive as the government would no longer tolerate any form of horse riding activities during festivals and ceremonies.

He urged horse owners and parents to warn their children and wards against non-compliance with the order.

The SSG added that anyone found in the act would be arrested, while the horse would be confiscated.

He also warned that the government would not hesitate to take legal action against anyone who flouted the directive.

He assured the people of the state that all forms of criminality would be nipped in the bud.
