The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has launched a multi-agency operation code-named Operation Puff Adder to check kidnapping and banditry in some states.

A statement from police spokesman DCP Frank Mba said the operation is part of measures aimed at curbing the excesses of criminals.

He said the operation would be carried out in collaboration with the armed forces and Department of State Services (DSS).

According to him, the operation also involves massive deployment of well-trained, well-equipped and well-motivated personnel and combined operational assets from the various security agencies tailored towards ridding the country, especially the Kaduna – Abuja Expressway, Kogi, Katsina, Niger and Zamfara states of crimes and criminality.

He said the IGP called for the full support and cooperation of the civil populace, particularly traditional and religious leaders, youth associations, market bodies, cultural associations and professionals among others in the fight against criminals, especially kidnappers, armed robbers, and cattle rustlers among others.
