The Katsina State Government is to procure 5,000 cartons of ammunition to support security operatives in combating banditry and related criminality in the state.
A statement by a spokesperson to the state governor, Ibrahim Mohammed, said the purchase plan was approved during the last State Executive Council meeting.
Mohammed said the ammunition would also cover the needs of state government-established Community Watch Corps (CWC), vigilante groups, and hunters who complement the activities of conventional security operatives.
He said the state government also approved the procurement of 30-unit hybrid buses to promote environmentally friendly transportation and reduce commuting costs.

He added that approval was given for the construction of the Daura Western Bypass Dual Carriageway as part of ongoing road renewal projects.
He said the council also approved the provision of solar-powered water supply and reticulation at Special Model Schools in Radda, Charanchi council area, including furniture, instructional materials, and science and technical equipment.
Mohammed said approval was also given for the installation of a 300 kWp solar PV system, battery energy storage system, CCTV cameras, solar-powered streetlights, and backup generators at the schools.
He said the government declared a State of Emergency on dilapidated primary school buildings across the state, with rigorous rehabilitation planned for the 10 most dilapidated primary schools in each of the 34 Local Government Areas. (Guardian)
