The Yobe state government has directed the closure of all boarding Secondary Schools in the state as a proactive measure to safeguard students in the schools.

Mamman Mohammed, Director-General to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Press and Media Affairs, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Mohammed said the decision was taken at a security meeting between the governor and Security chiefs in the state.

He said at the meeting, security incidents in schools in some parts of the country were reviewed.

“A notice signed by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr.Bukar Aji Bukar, directed immediate closure of all secondary schools pending improvement in the situation.”

“Governor Buni called on the people of the state to pray for the leadership, security operatives, peace and improved security in the country.”

On Saturday, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, had directed that all boarding schools in the state should be shut with immediate effect.

The governor had said boarding students should attend day school like their other colleagues.

Many schools had been shut down in the last three days over resurgence of mass abduction.

Bandits had invaded schools in Kebbi and Niger States to abduct over 300 students and some staff as well.

Following this, the Federal Government ordered the closure of 41 Unity Schools, while the governments of Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Katsina, Taraba, among others reviewed operation of schools to avoid fresh security incidents.
