Insecurity: Northern traditional rulers, Islamic scholars meet in Kaduna

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Tuesday led prominent traditional rulers and Islamic scholars from across Northern Nigeria to a high-level meeting of the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development in Kaduna.
The meeting, chaired by the Sultan, who is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the foundation, focused on promoting peace, national unity, education, healthcare delivery and humanitarian support for vulnerable communities.
Among the traditional rulers at the meeting were the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli; the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi; the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar; the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu; the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad Mera; and the Etsu Pategi and Vice-Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, Alhaji Umaru Ishaq Bawa.
The meeting was held behind closed doors.
Also in attendance were the National Chairman of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau; Khalifa Sheikh Ibrahim Dahiru Usman Bauchi; the Secretary-General of JIBWIS, Sheikh Kabir Haruna Gombe; and the Secretary-General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Dr. Khalid Aliyu.
It was gathered that participants discussed ways of strengthening collaboration among traditional institutions, religious leaders and other stakeholders to address security challenges, promote peaceful coexistence, improve access to education and healthcare, and support vulnerable communities across the country.
The Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development has continued to implement programmes in peacebuilding, girl-child education, primary healthcare, nutrition and humanitarian support for vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
