Over 5, 000 people have been killed in Southern Kaduna following various attacks by suspected terrorists.
In a communique issued at the end of its congress, the NUJ, led by its council chairman, Yusuf Idris, said the federal and the Kaduna State governments should be proactive in handling incessant attacks on the people of Southern Kaduna.
“The union condemns the continued attacks. Government and security agencies have not done much to curtail the killings in Southern Kaduna.
“The union is also of the view that the federal government should equally extend the same security measures in the North-East to the southern part of Kaduna, Plateau and Nasarawa states,” the communique read.
In order to proffer solution to the attacks, the NUJ also suggested an inter-state security meeting among Kaduna, Nasarawa and Plateau states.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has presented relief materials donated by Dangote and Jai’z foundations respectively to victims of the recent attack at Fadan Karshi in Sanga Local Goverment Area of the state.
In a statement signed by the executive secretary of the agency, Hon Ishaku Dogo Makama, the agency commended the rapid response of Dangote and Jai’z foundations to the plight of the affected persons.
The NUJ also agreed to build a conference hall and three-storey lodge within the secretariat. The project is to be funded by an estate developer in collaboration with the union at the cost of N500 million.
