The Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (FUHSA) in Bauchi State has matriculated 1, 448 new students into various programmes for the 2025/2026 academic season.

The Institution in collaboration with security agencies would mount a military checkpoint at the main entrance with constant night patrols around the university to strengthen security within the institution.

Vice Chancellor of FUHSA Professor Bala M. Audu, who disclosed this during the 4th Matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic season held at the university in Azare, Bauchi State.

The Don explained, “To ensure the maximum security of lives and property on campus and provide reassurances to the students, the University and security agencies are working in synergy. A military checkpoint adjacent to the University Main Gate would soon be mounted with a constant night patrols around the University.

“Additionally, the Bauchi State Government has donated a vehicle for patrols by university security personnel. Furthermore, the University has commenced construction of a perimeter fence around the entire Female Hostel to enhance privacy and security of the students,”

Audu told the students that the University shall continue to provide a conducive learning environment and welfare services to support your studies. Similarly, a student Hand book containing all the necessary containing all the necessary guidance, information’s as well as rules and regulations shall be made available to you in order to further enhance your smooth academic life.

Audu said that the university urges you to read, understand and make full use of the students’ hand book, which is also available in the library in addition to your personal copies. FUHSA maintains a zero-tolerance policy for social vices, such as cultism, examination misconduct, sexual harassment, drug abuse, indecent dressing, vandalism, truancy etc. These are not only frowned upon, but strictly prohibited and attracts uncompromising disciplinary measures as indicated in your handbook.

The VC stressed, “Our University is therefore committed to imparting you with knowledge, and a sense of discipline by also positively moulding your character, producing worthy ambassadors who uphold national values and international best practices and behaviors. Therefore, those who follow the books will be rewarded, while those who defy these standards will face the full consequences of the law.”

He said that FUHSA upholds fundamental principles, norms, and cultural values that positioned the institution as a center for learning and character development. These core values reflect our vision; to nurture a university of the highest standards, ranked among the world’s best.

“Today we have successfully Matriculated 1,076 students across twenty (20) departments in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, 109 from MBBS Medicine and Surgery and 49 from BDS Dentistry Programme. This makes a total of 1,448 for the 2025/2026 Academic Session, comprising of 551 Males and 937 Females,” he said

The VC noted that the Management of this University is fully aware of your challenges, from the lack of adequate hostel accommodation and lecture halls as well as lack of constant power supply, which also affects water supply. However, I want to assure you that we are working round the clock to ensure that these challenges are overcome within the shortest possible time.

He continue, “We are actively engaged to ensure uninterrupted (24/7) power and water supply in the campus using solar energy, Insha Allah. I must commend the effort of the Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa in assisting the University to secure an intervention of Africa Development Bank Project to provide Solar Farm in the University. Furthermore, the University has begun the construction of additional classrooms and male hostels to address the acute shortage of these facilities on campus. ”

The VC charged the students to utilize the opportunity to study and excel in various academic fields, adding, “Remember, your were carefully admitted from many other qualified candidates like you have sought for admission into this university but they were unable to secure the admission because of inadequate space.”

“The oath you took today signifies your commitment to abide by FUHSA’s laws, statutes, and standards of decorum throughout your stay. On behalf of myself and the University community, I wish you a successful academic journey,” he added

The VC thanked Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed Government for recently allocating another 500 hectares of land at Dugunde Forest (KM23 Azare-Potiskum road), bringing the total of 600 hectares as permanent site of the university. “We have already earmarked a significant portion of the land to be soon utilized for entreprenual activities for the students.”

‘Similarly, I like to express our profound appreciation the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof, Babagana Umara Zulum for constructing 6 units of 3-bedroom houses in the staff quarters of the University.”

He added, “My Special thank also goes to the Management of OPAY Digital Services for providing 10-year scholarship to 20 indigent students of the University annually, to the tune of N300,000 to each beneficiary.”
