The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has promised improved security in the nation’s capital but warned that there is no part of the world where crimes are totally eradicated.

He said no society exists without one form of crime or the other, adding that what was critical was being able to limit or reduce the level of insecurity.

Wike disclosed this while briefing journalists after a closed-door session with senators at the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday.

Our correspondent reports that the lawmakers had earlier invited the minister and the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igwe, to brief them on the modalities put in place to secure residents of the territory.

The minister said that the interaction, which lasted over three hours, was fruitful, adding that senators had agreed that security has significantly improved in the FCT.

The minister informed the lawmakers that the recent arrest of two most wanted kidnappers and intelligence driven security had helped the administration to curtail the insecurity in the territory.

Wike said kidnapping and other crimes may be difficult to eradicate with involvement of family members arranging for the kidnapping of their fellow members.

He said, ‘’Most of the kidnapping stories you hear, some of them are stage-managed by people. There are some internal arrangements.

“Take for example, you have a housekeeper or a driver in the house who will plot to kidnap the child of their boss. In such a case, what do you expect us to do? “What we can do is to ensure that the person that is kidnapped is released.”
