Insecurity: Yobe reopens two weekly markets

The Yobe State government has announced the reopening of two weekly markets earlier shutdown over security concerns.

Daily Trust reports that the three weekly markets of Katarko, Kukareta, and Buni Yadi were closed temporarily as part of renewed efforts to consolidate gains in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the state.

Briefing newsmen after a security meeting chaired by Deputy Governor of Yobe State Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, the Special Advisor to the Yobe State Governor on Security Matters Brigadier General Abdulsalam Dahiru (Rtd) said the state government has agreed to reopen Buni Yadi and Kukareta markets after the review of the security situation.

According to him, the state government and the security agencies approved the reopening of the markets following the acknowledgement of the massive security improvements.

He, however, said both the state government and security personnel are working tirelessly to ensure peace and stability across the state.

“You’re aware that some weeks ago, three weekly markets were shut because of security concerns that will affect the patrons of those markets.

“I’m happy to report that as of this morning, two of the three of these markets have become operational. The Buni Yadi market resumed last week Friday and the Kukareta market has resumed operational today.

“This is also to tell you that the security situation in Yobe State has seriously improved,” he said.
