Duke said this at the closing ceremony of the Professional Tour Guiding Course training programme organised by the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) in Abuja.
He said the training has offered participants the opportunity to learn and put into practice services that depicts international best practices.
“This training has exposed you to global knowledge that will help you to adopt strategies that will increase tourism inflow and better ways of handling tourist arrivals in the country. As tour guides and operators, what you have acquired through this intervention should assist in offering effective and efficient services to tourists.”
The minister said tourism is the only sector that accommodates both skilled and unskilled workers as professionals, adding that the training programme constitute an affirmation of the bold steps the federal government was taking towards revitalisation of the sector.
Earlier, the Director General of the institute, Alhaji Munzali Dantata said the training was designed to equip participants with the right skills, knowledge and attitude to carry out their professional responsibilities.
