Tagged: “Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development”, the technological action plan was launched at the “Roadmap 2014 – 2018 and Capacity Development” retreat held by the institute.
In his remark at the launch, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the institute, Dr. Ighodalo Ijagbone said the four-year technological action plan which is aimed at transforming the institute is similar to the one laid by NISLT founding father, General Olusegun Obasanjo way back in 1972. Obasanjo who was then the Army Inspector of Engineers was said to have underscored the importance of technology to economic advancement.
Quoting Obasanjo at the launch of the initial technological plan 42 years ago, the NISLT registrar said “the success or failure of Nigeria’s development plan would depend much on what emphasis is placed on technology in all its ramifications.
“That Nigeria could establish a sound industrial economy on research and development borrowing from other advanced countries. As time goes on if we want to be truly economically strong we will have to be more on our own in scientific and technological development,” Ijagbone quoted Obasanjo as saying.
According to the institute’s boss, there was a great wisdom in initiating the new strategic plan because laboratory is the link between science and technology. He said without a functional laboratory there cannot be any product from science and technology.
