As Nigeria is facing the threat of famine due to erratic rainfall and flooding of farmlands, the Adamawa State government and its partners are providing incentives to dry season farmers to deal with the threat. 

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner of Agriculture, Professor David Jatau, who represented the state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, at the Mega Farmers Brown Field event held yesterday in Demsa town in Adamawa State as part of acrivities to mark the World Food Day.

Jatau explained that erratic rainfall and destruction of farmlands by flood are signs for possible famine, saying the federal government had responded to the situtaion and asked the state for data on the number of farmers engaging in dry season farming. 

In his speech, the Deputy Chief of Party of the IAA, Okukayide Faleti, who represented the Chief of Party, Prakash Silwal said the quality of crops produced indicated the success recorded by the USAID-funded Feed the Future programme in the state.
