Speaking at the 18th National Delegates Conference (NDC) of ASUU holding at the University of Ibadan, Dr. Fagge called for a change of attitude from our leaders, saying that we need forthright leaders to move the nation forward.
According to him, Nigeria’s political landscape is increasingly becoming intolerant and desperate as the present crops of leaders have continued to milk the nation dry under the guise of privatisation, adding: “This is unhealthy for the polity.
“We believe that the Nigerian people are not being presented with sufficient options to choose from. The same crops of leaders have been recycling themselves from one party to another, scrambling for power. We cannot keep doing the same thing and expect different result. The ruling elites have systematically edged out the people from governance equation.’’
While lamenting the level of corruption among leaders, Fagge said: “We have a huge burden of responsibility to raise the consciousness of the people to demand for power through a legitimate and transparent electoral process.”
Speaking earlier, Chairman, University of Ibadan Chairman of ASUU, Professor Olusegun Ajiboye, called on Nigerian scholars to research into fundamentalisms of thoughts, faiths and actions with a view to tackling growing crime and terrorism in Nigeria.
