A representative of BlueBlood veterinary who was also the lead trainer, Dr Mohammed Abba Kwajaffa, while declaring the workshop open said the training was organised to empower women and youth in order to reduce the problem of insurgency of the Boko Haram facing the state.
Kwajaffa added: “The insecurity problem facing Borno and other parts of the north has really contributed to our economic downturn but we cannot just fold our arms and watch things going bad. I am not happy today because businesses have stopped and young men are roaming the streets not because they don’t have anything doing but because what they were doing have been taken over by the insecurity. That is why we organized this workshop to harness their potentials.”
He said 40 women and youth from Jere local government were selected to participate in the workshop, adding that the organisation intended to take many youths off the streets by training them to be self-reliant through agriculture.
“This workshop is organised to enlighten our women and youth about livestock and poultry production towards economic sustenance and independence. For our teeming youth the unemployment aspect of our country today is contributing to our insecurity. So for us to be secure in this country, our youths should be determined, encouraged and should be dedicated. That is why we are organising this workshop at this time for them to know what to do with their potentials.
“We want to harness the potential of the youths so that they can change from unemployed to employers of labour through agriculture.”
Kwajaffa explained that the association was looking for partnership with Sure-P so that the youths can get soft loan to start up their businesses.
