The Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace (IDFP) has expressed sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari died on Sunday in a London hospital following an undisclosed illness.
His coffin, wrapped in Nigeria’s green and white flag, was flown into Katsina and buried in his hometown, Daura, on Tuesday.
Buhari, who first seized power in a 1983 military coup and ruled for less than two years, returned to lead Nigeria as a civilian after defeating Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election.
He served two terms until stepping down in 2023.
In a statement, Rev. Abainitus Akila Hamman and Dr. Yusuf Yakubu Arrigasiyyu, Co-Chairs of IDFP, prayed for the Almighty to grant the late president eternal peace.
The statement reads: “With heartfelt sorrow, the Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace (IDFP) mourns the passing of Former President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR)
“We pray that the Almighty grants him eternal peace and comforts his family, loved ones, and the nation in this period of grief.
“As a leader who served Nigeria with dedication, may his life and legacy continue to inspire us to build a nation rooted in peace, justice, and unity.
“May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him the highest level in Jannatul Firdaus.”
