The Nigerian Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has called for frequent and regular training of police officers deployed across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to enhance effective policing and strengthen internal security.
The Executive Secretary of the fund, Mohammed Sheidu, made the call in Abuja during the opening of a four-day nationwide police training programme.
He said sustained capacity-building would improve officers’ skills, confidence and professionalism.
Sheidu noted that the initiative was timely, coming amid concerns that the increasing deployment of soldiers for internal security duties was weakening the police and other civil security agencies.
“When officers are properly trained and supported, communities are safer, public trust is strengthened, and the nation benefits,” Sheidu said.
He explained that the programme was not routine but a clear demonstration of the Fund’s commitment to strengthening the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
He said the NPTF was moving beyond policy discussions to practical implementation in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Sheidu said the Trust Fund was established to serve as a reliable and strategic support system for the police, stressing that targeted training, improved welfare and strategic investments were critical to reforming the force.
