Dr. Orhii described as “an unfortunate and curious paradox a situation whereby counterfeiting of tobacco and currencies have punitive international conventions whereas drug counterfeiting which has more devastating health hazards does not have an international convention”.
He spoke during the four-day conference held in Milwaukee, USA,  wherein he was named Honourary Citizen of the State in recognition of his pioneering and global leadership in the use of cutting edge technologies to fight drug counterfeiting.
According to him, the developed countries are not insulated from the menace of drug counterfeiting which currently occurs via purchase of medicines through internet and also effect of cross border strains of Malaria disease that cannot be treated with most effective drugs.
The Director-General commended the Mayors particularly the Black Cacaus for remembering and seeking to contribute towards meaningful development of their ancestral homes in Africa.
Orhii was recognised at the 2013 US World Conference of Mayors for his creative strategies in fighting counterfeit drugs.
Mayor of Maryland and President of the World Conference of Mayors, Dr. James Walls who presented the award said the NAFDAC boss was honoured because his innovative anti-counterfeiting approach has made tremendous impact on the healthcare sector not only in Nigeria but globally.
