Kotolo said rather than the jamboree of ceremonial flag off of the distribution of fertilizer, dry season farming and the likes, the minister for agriculture, state governors and local government chairmen should concentrate on the provision of necessary equipment capable of bring to an abrupt end, the ongoing traditional farming and replace it with mechanized farming.
”This country has passed the stage of farmers bending down with hoes to either tilt land or clear grasses in farms. We are doing so many things at the same time that is why you can hardly record significant achievement in agriculture. Let us take one full year to mechanize our farming system. Then we go into other areas. But where every minister will come with his system and go with it is not healthy for the farmers,” he said.
He noted that farmers using mechanized system of farming last longer than those using hoes and produce more crops, adding, “There is no farmer that uses traditional method that can produce enough for his consumption and even sell to others. We should face the reality,” he said.
