The late commander of the Anti-phone Snatching Squad in Kano State, Inuwa Sharada, has been described as a brave officer who died protecting the state from the menace of phone-snatching, as well as peace in the city.

A statement by the director-general of media and publicity, Kano Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the killing of the commander, describing his death as a tragic and a huge loss to the state’s security architecture.

The late officer was laid to rest in Sharada, Kano on Thursday. Governor Yusuf was in attendance at the funeral prayer, where he joined family members, colleagues and top government officials to pay final respect to the deceased.

“The death of Officer Inuwa is a painful reminder of the risks our gallant security personnel face daily in their duty to protect the people. He died in active service, defending the peace of Kano.

“On behalf of the government and the good people of Kano State, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and the entire security community,” the governor said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to support all security agencies in the fight against phone snatching, thuggery and other forms of criminality, stressing that government would not tolerate acts of lawlessness or allow criminal gangs to terrorise innocent citizens.

“We will not fold our arms while a few misguided individuals attempt to hold our state hostage. We will continue to provide the necessary support and ensure that justice is served,” he said.

The governor also called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities in their communities.

“When you see something, say something – together we will reclaim our streets and safeguard our future,” he emphasized.

Governor Yusuf prayed to the Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late officer, grant him eternal rest and give his family the strength to bear the loss.

Until his death, Inuwa Sharada was the chairman of the Kano State Anti-Phone Snatching, a voluntery group that was adopted by the Kano State Government and transformed into the Kano State Anti-Phone Snatching and Illicit Drugs Protection Squad.
