Inuwa vs Bayero: Gombe is at a crossroads

Since 2003, the “Jewel in the Savannah” has been fortunate to be having progressives as its governors. Hence the reason why, more than any other state in the northeast sub region, Gombe State has witnessed tremendous development especially in terms of infrastructure. There is no gainsaying therefore that the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state is important for the mere fact that its outcome can either reassure of the continuous growth of the state or give conflicting signals of uncertainty and thus bring forth a bleak future.

The results of parties` primary elections held few months ago showed that Gombawa will on 2nd March next year choose between Muhammad Inuwa Yahya (APC) – who is not only familiar with business paths but also quite conversant with the challenges of governance, and Usman Bayero Nafada (PDP) – who has carved a niche in legislation. These two candidates are the major contenders in the race to Gombe government house in this political season.

Inuwa, as a business man handles the baton of success having reached an appreciable height in the quest for wealth. And in public service, he was commissioner of finance for about seven years during the Danjuma Goje administration. This is the third time he is vying for the governorship position of Gombe state. Yahya is known for financial prudence and respect for everyone.

Bayero, an accountant by training, has worked and walked in the legislature. He was at several times a Speaker at the Gombe state House of Assembly, Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives and now a member of the Nigerian Senate. He is also taking a shot at the Gombe government house for the third time.

Given the profiles of the duo, Gombe people are faced with the reality of making an important decision. They have to make a wise decision between the two in the elections slated for early next year.
