The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) and Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA) have asked investors to invest in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to stimulate transport and logistics business, saying there is good returns on investments.

The NITT Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah spoke at a public awareness programme on CNG in Kano.

He said CNG usage, a cheaper alternative to fossil fuel after fuel subsidy removal, is the future for transport and logistics business because of its low emissions, domestic natural gas utilisation and energy security and job creation support.

The DG represented by NITT Kano Liaison officer, Abdullahi Nakura said the institute has been training technicians on how to convert petrol or diesel engines to CNG powered vehicles, calling on investors to explore business opportunities in CNG as the world moves to renewable energy.

KACCIMA Director General Tijjani Sarki said the Kano business community has the money to invest but awareness of the opportunities in CNG is low though it is gradually changing.

“Our business community in Kano has the money to invest, but the awareness is not just there, that is why we are behind,” he said.

Professor Nura Rabiu Ahmad in his presentation titled, “Accelerating CNG Acceptability, Availability and Affordability in the North-West”, said the risk associated with building CNG tank in vehicles and fear of explosion are responsible for low investment in CNG in the north, noting that CNG low emission makes it safe.
