Chief Executive Officer of eWorldwide Group USA, Dr Salma Abbasi, said in her presentation on “Empowering women through innovation,” at the Women Summit in Abuja yesterday that there was need to have more women in governance.
While decrying the attitude of always alluding romantic connotations to women’s closeness to men, she said it was time for women to move from a consumer class to an innovative class and become effective entrepreneurs.
She urged women to use information technology or the internet to improve their businesses.
“If you have a phone, you can reach people and increase your network and ability to access more customers.  Use the internet, look at innovative ways to do your business and get better ideas,” she said.
The Managing Director of MainOne Cables, Mrs Funke Opeke, said encouraging women into careers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) starts from childhood through building girls in Mathematics and science  subjects in addition to ensuring quality education.
Chief Executive Officer of 141 Worldwide, Mrs Bunmi Oke, said individuals should build brands, adding that one must deliver on promises in order to sustain his or her brand. According to her, most women lack access to information thereby making them lose opportunities that would have allowed them to be self reliant.
