Inyang, Ukah, Ofili, Maiwada, for ANA presidency

Ofonime Inyang, Camillus Ukah, Chike Ofili, and Ahmed Maiwada will be contesting for President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) at this year’s convention in Enugu.

This year’s convention, the 38th, takes place from October 31 to November 2 in Enugu. The election takes place on the last day of the event when the association holds its Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The association’s president since 2015, Malam Denja Abdullahi told Bookshelf there are 14 positions to be contested for, but the presidency is usually the main focus.

Among the contestants, Ukah is presently the Vice President of the association, while Inyang is the General Secretary.

ANA has a governing National Executive Council made up of 14 officials headed by a President with the secretariat administered by a General Secretary, elected every two years at a national convention which is held annually. According to its website, a slightly similar Executive Council but less in number runs the Association’s business at the States’ level.

The executive positions include; President, Vice President, General Secretary, Ass. Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Auditor, Legal Adviser, PRO North, PRO South, and Ex Officio Members.

The association was founded on June 27, 1981, during a conference convened by the late Professor Chinua Achebe. That maiden conference of Nigerian writers held at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
