A three-day national women directors and leaders’ summit is slated to be held in May at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Abuja.

The summit, organised by the Institute of Directors Nigeria in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, is expected to help sharpen the business skills of women and enhance the capacity of senior level women executives.

The chairman of the organising committee of the summit, Sena Anthony, said the biennial summit was organised to assist female business owners. 

“It is our belief that the issue of the economy must be addressed by focusing on women doing small businesses and how to help them grow their businesses. It is not only the big companies that will contribute to revamping the economy, small businesses can also help. From research, women have the highest number of small businesses in the country,” she said.

The essence of the summit, she disclosed, is for the economic advancement of women in their businesses, whether small, medium or large.

 The first female president of IoD, Olutoyin Olakunri noted that there is need for leaders, including women leaders in business and political communities, to find effective, sustainable and practical solutions to tackling the challenge of both empowering more women and keeping them empowered.
