IPAC tackles Kogi electoral body over LG poll

The Kogi State chapter of Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC) has called on the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) to issue the timetable for the conduct of local government elections in the state.

IPAC, in a statement issued yesterday, by its State Chairman, Iliyas Badanga, said it was surprising that the SIEC chairman was yet to outline the timeline of its activities for the conduct of council poll which, he added, was long overdue.

He said the body was shocked that after a series of meetings SIEC held with political parties and stakeholders with the assurance to conduct local government election in September 2020, the electoral body was yet to release any information to that effect a few weeks to the said month.

“The regulation is for political parties to be put on notice at least three months before elections are conducted to allow the political parties to prepare. Unfortunately, this foot-dragging does not show any seriousness that this chairman is prepared to conduct local government election this year,” he said.
