The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Suleja-Abuja Unit has honoured the Managing Director of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Alhaji Umar Ajiya for transparency as they seek the appeal for timely payment of their bridging claims and restoration of credit facilities for its members.
The PPMC chief was honored during the independent marketers’ annual general meeting held in Abuja Monday under the theme ‘IPMAN and the challenges of fuel distribution in Nigeria.’
The Chairman of IPMAN Suleja-Abuja Unit, Alhaji Salihu Abdullahi Butu said the PPMC boss was honored “for his open-door policy and effective leadership initiatives in the management of PPMC.”
“You will agree with me that, for the first time, there is accessibility to the office; and the MD now has listening ears, welcoming innovative ideas and suggestions towards growth in the industry. We urge him to sustain this trend and also do more in this worthy administrative direction,” the IPMAN chairman said.
In his remarks, Ajiya dedicated the award to the management and staff of PPMC for their commitment and hard work in the attainment of vision and mission of the company.
Listing some of the challenges faced by IPMAN, Butu said equalization claims to the association members in the bridging process was about the smallest in the whole country, making it difficult for members to recoup the cost to transport products.
“We, therefore, appeal for the removal of deduction of NTA in our bridging claims and also a review of our depot rate because it heaps more costs on us and exposes us to more financial responsibilities,” he said.
Butu also appealed for members engaging in bridging to be offered certain relief to offset the current high cost of automotive gas oil (AGO) popularly called diesel.
“We want to appeal for a reconsideration for the need to allocate AGO directly to IPMAN leadership so as to help marketers going for bridging to access it on a good rate.”
The marketers also launched their website which will provide prompt information on the availability and prices of products across all the depots in the country.
IPMAN commended the federal government for the quick intervention made to arrest the recent petroleum scarcity.
“We, however, encourage the government to sustain this right attitude towards curtailing the petroleum scarcity menace, while at the same time, it has the duty to put things in place to pre-empt its reoccurrence.”
The association also praised the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) for introducing the online license processing which has made license, renewal easier in the sector.
Butu identified contributions made by the IPMAN to the Nigerian economy to include job creation and infrastructural development.
“We are closer to the masses of this country, and we are the strength of supply and availability of petroleum resources in the nooks and crannies of the nation,” he said.
