The Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, has assured that Nigerian citizens living in Iran are safe despite rising tensions in the Middle East following recent military confrontations involving Iran, the United States and Israel. 

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the envoy said there had been no report of casualties involving Nigerians in Iran.

 “Your citizens in Iran are safe and secure, because some of your citizens are in Tehran, some of them are in Qom and the other cities.

“So far, we haven’t received any reports regarding Nigerian casualties or injuries,” he said.

 He added, “Be sure about your citizens in Iran.”

 

 The ambassador noted that relations between Iran and Nigeria have remained cordial for decades, stressing that the long-standing diplomatic ties between the two countries continue to guarantee the safety of Nigerians residing in the Islamic Republic.

 “Our relationship goes back more than 55 years ago. During these decades, we have good relations, and now we already have good relations,” he said.

 According to him, both countries maintain cooperation across several sectors, including politics, agriculture, energy, education and industry.

 The envoy spoke amid heightened tensions in the region after Iran accused the United States and Israel of carrying out attacks on its territory.

 In his opening remarks, the ambassador described the attacks as a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

 “The Islamic Republic of Iran has been subjected to a deliberate and premeditated military aggression by the United States of America and the Israeli regime — an act that constitutes a blatant violation of fundamental principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations,” he said.
