The Intergenerational Rescue Foundation Inc. (IRF), in partnership with the Department of Social Work at the University of Lagos, is set to inspire students’ interest in agriculture through Agroween ’25 and the prestigious Agroween Recognition Awards (ARA Awards).
In a statement on Thursday, IRF Chairperson and convener of Agroween, Mrs. Bimbola Aghahowa, described Agroween ’25 as a dynamic festival designed to celebrate innovation and sustainability in food, agriculture, and community development.
She said the event will bring together leaders in academia, agribusiness, food technology, and community development to promote dialogue, collaboration, and creative solutions for building sustainable food systems in Nigeria.
Confirmed participants include former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Desmond Majekodunmi, Mrs Funke Egbemode, Mr Tony Elemelu, Prof. Yile Adeleya, Prof. Funlola Oguwabi, Prof. Adeja Okokoya, and Prof. Samuel Ojimah Atejah—individuals recognised for their commitment to sustainability, food security, and transformative community action.
According to Aghahowa, Agroween aims to address food insecurity through sustainable agriculture, research, and community-driven initiatives, anchored on rewards and gratitude.
“This year’s theme, ‘Sowing Seeds of Innovation’, underscores food security, sustainable agriculture, and community-driven solutions, aligning with our ‘Food Not For Sale’ theory. By embracing innovation, we can catch up with or surpass existing standards, driving sustainability and development,” she said.
Head of the Department of Social Work, University of Lagos, Prof. Samuel Adejoh, explained that one key objective of Agroween ’25 is to promote agricultural literacy and equip students to make informed choices as consumers and citizens.
