Property developers from Republic of Ireland who were in Calabar, Cross River State last week have reached agreement with the state government to build 5000 units of modular homes across the state’s 18 local government areas (LGAs).
The Irish building firm, Affordable Building Concept International is to partner with the government to ensure that the homes cost the occupiers mostly the less privileged and low income earners, little or nothing, according to Governor Ben Ayade.
Ayade who earlier led a trade delegation to Dublin, capital of Ireland said modalities have been worked to make the home project realisable and affordable.
The governor said the aim is to build new cities, saying the property developers are specialists.
Ayade said, “There is no amount of value you can give to mankind that will be enough if he is dehumanized by lack of shelter.
“The investors will come with their technology and expertise and set up a factory where low cost housing will be designed off site and the houses set up in less than three days.”
He explained that the houses will be in three categories to cater for the needs and taste of the people who will key into the ambition of the government to create a new city in each of the LGAs. That of Calabar will be called Calas Vegas.
Ayade disclosed that they are mindful of the natural endowment of the environment where the houses will be located.
Chairman of Affordable Building Concept International, Mr. Desmond Cullinane expressed optimism that they would achieve success in the state.
The Irish investors later visited Summit Hills, where UAC is currently building housing estate of various categories known as Golf Estate.
