Kano state government has procured 3,000 water-pump machines for onward distribution to farmers during this year’s dry season farming as part of its efforts to encourage irrigation farming in the state.
The Managing Director of Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA), Professor Mahmud Daneji disclosed this when he received the Country Director of Sasakawa Global 2000 (SG2000), Professor Sani Ahmed-Miko on courtesy visit.
He said the water pumps do not require fuel to operate, adding that that the machines were customised for easy operation by local farmers and were cost effective in management and maintenance.
He added that that, federal government initiative on fertilizer had greatly reduced monopoly of the middlemen and increased its availability and accessibility to local farmers.
In his remarks, the SG2000 Country Director, Professor Ahmed-Miko said they were at KNARDA to develop a model that would better the lot of local farmers in the country.
