There is growing political anxiety in some quarters over speculation that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri may join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State. For some politicians , the mere possibility has unsettled established interests and triggered intense debate across the state.
If Governor Fintiri makes such a move, it is unlikely to be a mere defection; rather, it would represent a major political realignment. Known for his strategic approach to politics, Fintiri understands the principle of give and take. He is coming with that mindset; and, more importantly, he is giving something bigger- that the APC needed most
Current political data clearly demonstrates the strength of Governor Fintiri’s political base and the dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State. In the 2023 presidential and governorship elections, the PDP secured a combined total of 848,472 votes : 417,611 votes in the presidential election and 430,861 votes in the governorship poll.
The APC has also so far electronically registered about 450,000 members in the state.
