Needless to say, like millions of my compatriots, I was infuriated to read about the recall of Abdurrashid Maina and his reinstatement into our federal civil service last week. Like countless other Nigerians I believed he was a hardcore criminal who heartlessly stole pension funds worth billions of Naira and ran away. 

But then his family spoke and said their son was an innocent victim of a frame-up. And Maina himself spoke and claimed that he never touched even a kobo of the pension funds he recovered from the real thieves. He cited former finance minister Dr Ngozi Iweala and former CBN governor, His Highness Emir Sanusi of Kano, as his witnesses that he paid everything he recovered into government coffers.

Could he be telling the truth? But then I stumbled on the piece below and began to think that maybe there is a case for Maina and not against him, even in the court of public opinion. Please read what a journalist, who followed the Maina story from the start, has to say in his defence.
