Sierra Leonean writer and human rights activist, Ishmael Beah, author of the memoir A Long Way Gone, will lead a creative writing workshop at Kaduna’s Gusau Institute on March 7.

The workshop is being organised by the Gusau Institute and the Yasmin Elrufai Foundation for “emerging writers with sustained writing past.”

Only 20 people will be selected and interested applicants must submit 400 words of their best writing through the Yasmin Elrufai Foundation website on or before February 21.

Beah, who will lead the one-day workshop, wrote his memoir based on his experiences as a child soldier during the Sierra Leonean civil war in the 1990s. His most recent work is the 2014 novel Radiance of Tomorrow.
