The Al-Habibiyyah Academy has introduced anti-corruption and accountability course into its Quranic teaching and learning curriculum as part of measures to deepen and sensitise Nigerians on the fight against corruption.
The Executive Director of the academy, Imam Fuad Adeyemi, said this yesterday in Abuja at the end of a training programme for Imams and scholars of the academy.
He said the training was meant to teach the scholars on the merits of anti-corruption campaign and the methodology of inculcating it unto their students and congregation.According to him, corruption is the bane of underdevelopment and killings in the country, hence all hands must be on deck to address the menace.
“Most of the problems and underdevelopment in our country today can be traced to corruption and lack of transparency and accountability in our affairs. That is why the academy is introducing this course (anti-corruption) as part of our curriculum, so as to sensitise Nigerians on the dangers of corruption,” Adeyemi said.
He said that the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society (AIS) through its anti-corruption NGO, ‘Encouraging Accountability and Transparency Through Faith-Based Intervention (EAT-FIn)’ had also been engaged in anti-corruption campaigns across the country.
He said the NGO had broadened its collaboration with schools and anti-corruption agencies such as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drive home it’s message.
While commending the Federal Government for its fight against corruption, Imam Adeyemi urged religious organisations and other stakeholders to also join the campaign.
