He commended the recent visit of Governor Olusegun Mimiko to the Minister of Works and Housing Alhaji Hassan Lawal in Abuja on the need to rehabilitate the roads.Speaking in Akure, the Ondo State Capital while paying a courtesy visit to Governor Mimiko, the cleric noted that bad roads and energy problem had retarded the progress of the country.
Ajisafe urged the federal government to tackle the problem in order to improve the nation’s economy for the benefit of the masses. Besides, the Islamic leader advised state governments across the country to revive agriculture as the only means of abolishing poverty, stressing that in spite of the crisis in the Middle East, Palestine had remained the largest producer of olive oil while Turkey and Malaysia were leading the world in palm oil production.
He particularly pleaded with Mimiko’s administration to develop Ode-Aye Farm settlement and Okitipupa oil mills for the benefit of the people.
Ajisafe also solicited for cocoa re-birth in the state, stressing that the cash crop had played a major role in economic enhancement the old western region.
“The old western region government and mid-west in the 1950s gave more priority to agriculture as the region was leading in the palm oil production, cotton, rubber plantation, timber, and tree planting” he noted.
While commending Mimiko for appointing Alhaji Ali Olanusi as his Deputy, he called for more political appointments for qualified Muslims both at state and local government levels.
Responding, the Governor hailed religious leaders for their supplication and prayers without which there would be no peace in the country. He also thanked Muslim adherents for their prayers during his struggle to reclaim the Labour Party [LP] mandate.
