In a concerted effort to address the increasing disunity among Islamic sects in Southwest Nigeria, the League of Imams and Alfas has announced a significant conference aimed at fostering unity and progress within the Muslim community.
Scheduled for October 7 to 9 in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, the three-day event will focus on the theme ‘Strengthening Islamic Unity and Progress in Yorubaland’.
Sheikh Taofeek Akewugbagold, Chairman of the Media Committee, at a press briefing, highlighted the pressing need for stakeholders to unite against divisive issues, advocating for a collaborative vision for community development.
He stressed the importance of practicing Islam in ways that benefit both the Yoruba people and Nigeria as a whole.

“The conference seeks to promote harmony among various Islamic sects, reinforcing the belief that all Muslims worship one God (Allah) and should collectively strive for the advancement of the Yoruba race,” Akewugbagold noted.
He emphasised the necessity of analysing the causes of sectarian conflicts and devise enduring solutions.
He further underlined the responsibility of Islamic organisations to foster unity, referencing the teachings of the Qur’an and the Hadith.
Prominent figures expected at the conference include President Tinubu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and business leader Alhaji Aliko Dangote, alongside other influential Islamic leaders.
The press briefing also had in attendance other influential Islamic leaders, including Sheikh Kolawole Lawal, Wakil Muslimin of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta states, and Imam Abiola Abdul Rahman, Grand Chief Imam of Epe.
