Speaking during the flagging off of the exercise by the Federal Government in Abuja yesterday, the envoy said all necessary measures have been put in place to protect Nigerian pilgrims and others from other part of the world.
“On behalf of the state of Israel, I would like to appreciate Nigeria for believing in us and showing solidarity with my country for ensuring that its citizens participated in the family pilgrimage despite the crisis in the country,” the envoy promised.
Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, Mr. John K. Opara, said this year’s family pilgrimage was delayed a little because of the security challenges in Israel “but we have done everything humanly possible to ensure that our pilgrims are protected.”
While urging the pilgrims to pray for peace in Nigeria and the 2015 elections, he appealed to them to represent Nigeria well in Israel.
House of Representatives Committee Chairman of Foreign Affairs, Nnena Ukeje, said she is comfortable with the assurances from both the Israeli ambassador and the NCPC of the safety of Nigerians in Israel.
