Munday said a meeting where the draft sentencing guideline for corruption related offences 2014 was presented to judges of the Federal High Court of Nigeria that: “There are many unresolved problems in Nigeria, but the issue of corruption is particularly troubling.”
 “One important factor that has placed the fight against corruption on the political agenda is an increasing awareness of its effects on the economic growth and political development of the country and the huge impact corruption has on the lives of the ordinary citizens,” he noted.
Munday, who is the Head of Section, Political Governance and Democracy, said the EU welcomes efforts by stakeholders in reviewing the various extradition laws to ensure its harmonisation and subsequent implementation.
 “We are pleased with the draft sentencing guidelines for corruption related offences and hope that with adoption of these guidelines, the responsibilities of the judiciary as the main interpreter of the law would be significantly enhanced,” he added.
He said the EU had provided Nigeria both financial and technical support to the value of 27.5 million Euros  in the past to tackle corruption in the country.
