Issues of distribution of COVID-19 palliatives

The unfortunate epidemic explosion of coronavirus has become a great source of looting, lies and fabrication of figures and numbers of so-called vulnerable citizens who were aided. The FCT for instance serves as a good example of the untrue stories if those whose lives were aided.

Those who reside within the 6 Area Councils are not aware that any aid or food distribution was carried out. Rather, take Bwari  for example where only the indigenous (Gbagyis) were invited to the house of the chairman where food items were given to them plus a few bags were given to each ward leaders of the PDP to be shared amongst party loyalists.

The really vulnerable citizens (motorcycle riders, shoe cobblers, hawkers, persons with disabilities, the aged and the unemployed) were ignored.

In modern times, if there is any serious attempt to reach out to the peoples, it ought to be through BVN, national identity cards, bank accounts, driver’s permit, national passports and voter’s card. All those vulnerable citizens who really need assistance are matured enough to be entrusted with some finances for their own betterment.

Anything given to political leadership turns out to be vote getting tool . This means a misplaced priority and agenda.

Those countries that came to the aid of their citizens really did employed all needed measures for door-to-door distribution of food items regardless of the status of the people.

Unfortunately, in our beloved country, Nigeria, where elite (politicians and civil servants) turn any misfortune into private gold mine.

I hope that other states of the federation will not follow suit.
