NITDA’s Director General Dr Ashiru Sanni Daura, who disclosed this at the 2nd National Outsourcing Conference in Abuja, said the sector is in its infant stage but that the agency is working to make Nigeria its hub in Africa in order to provide thousands of jobs for unemployed youths in the coming years.
According to Dr Daura, the level of unemployment in the country is disheartening especially when opportunities in the IT outsourcing have not been explored.
He said: “We are also aware of the place of job creation in Mr. President’s Transformation Agenda. It is our resolve to support Mr. President on this agenda by creating an enabling environment for providing job opportunities for our teeming youths through the use of IT enabled services.”
In his presentation, the chairman of Nigerian Association of Information Technology Enabled Outsourcing Companies (NAITEOC)  David Onu said outsourcing industry in Nigeria is capable of generating N1.3trillion annually and would be able create over five million jobs in the next ten years.
Onu disclosed that over 10,000 Nigerians are presently employed in the sector, adding it can also increase the country’s gross domestic product.     
Dr Baba Jibrin Adamu, the Seniour Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on ICT, promised that FG would make internet transaction save in the country.
He said President Jonathan is passionate about using ICT create employment for Nigerian youths.
