We used to think that a task beyond the civilians, paramilitary and the police is for the Armed forces, it is amazing that now it’s the army that is using civilian hunters and JTF to help subdue the insurgents in Mubi and other places. This means that the hunters are braver than our soldiers, it also says that civilians are more willing to make sacrifices in order to help their compatriots out of danger than our armed forces personnel. Moreover this is proof that pride, confidence, courage and motivation have all been lost by our soldiers in this war against insurgency.’

Your article ‘Youth rushed in ….’ refers. An AK47 can kill a human being at 300 hundred yards or even further. At what distance can bows and arrows, swords, spears, machetes and dane guns kill a human being?

What has changed that led to the victory of the Nigerian army in Gombi and other towns in the North-East? Is this a desperate effort to lure lawmakers into granting an extension of emergency rule?  Will Boko Haram recapture the same places when extension is granted? The president was reported saying no territory has been lost in the last one week, what makes him this bold? Remember the same thing happened when he sought to extend  emergency rule the last time. Remember also that Shekau was killed when the president was at the UN in September.
What is he really up to?

My response: I believe so because the Yar’adua government had dealt with them between July and August 2009. Their leadership had been wiped out and most of the surviving followers arrested. From then till President Yar’adua’s death in May 2010 nothing was heard of them.
MEND’s Independence Day bombing took place five months after Umaru Yar’adua had died.

I am a card-carrying member of PDP but I totally agree with your column in the Weekly Trust of 22nd of this month. Surely we must begin where Okah started. Well done.

A Muslim who commits suicide does not automatically become an unbeliever but rather someone who has committed a grave sin. Allah SWT in His infinite mercy can forgive him if He wishes. As usual I found the column very good and educative.
