In a bid to promote skills acquisition and self-dependency, the Industrial Training Fund has conducted a three-month training for 100 youths.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of trainees in Abuja, the Director General of the ITF, Joseph Ari said the agency has recently scaled up training of youth to foster entrepreneurship and job creation.

Ari said through its Model Skills Training Centre (MSTC), the beneficiaries were trained in various skills including ICT and automation as well as certified with Trade Test certificates of competency 2 and 3.

He said skills for entrepreneurship and employability are important to combat the attendant effects of poverty and unemployment “that have manifested themselves in our dear country in the form of rising criminality including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and many other anti-social behaviours.”

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr. Simbi Wabote, said: “In total, over 13,000 Nigerians have benefited from our Human capital development programmes.”

He added that through its intervention, 255 artisans in 9 skill areas have been trained and most of the beneficiaries are now being gainfully employed or started up as entrepreneurs.
