Three-time governorship candidate in Ogun State and current member of the House of Representatives, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has again throw his hat into the ring, saying it is now his turn to be governor in 2027.

Daily Trust reports that Isiaka, aka GNI, had run in the state’s gubernatorial elections in 2011, 2015, and 2019 on different political platforms, but lost in all the attempts.

In the build-up to the 2023 election, Isiaka was eyeing the senatorial seat of Ogun West, but he later clinched the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Yewa North/Imeko-Afon federal constituency.

Isiaka currently chairs the National Planning and Economic Development Committee of the House of Representatives.

At a media chat in Abeokuta, he said he is well-positioned to become the next governor of Ogun State in 2027, insisting that his long-standing involvement in the state’s politics justifies his ambition.

He dismissed claims that he was being “pushed” into the race, stressing that his aspiration is rooted in years of personal effort and political participation.

“After running elections three times… I’ve put so much into this process for me to be able to sit at most tables to discuss what needs to be done about the state,” the federal lawmaker said.

Adopting President Bola Tinubu’s pre-2023 election emphatic statement “Emilokan” (it’s my turn), Isiaka said he is best placed to be the next governor,” he said.

The lawmaker emphasized that his political journey, including contesting under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he branded an “unknown party,” demonstrated his independence and commitment.

He, however, maintained that he is open to consultations and alliances within the political space.
