‘I’ve been offered kidney but have no funds for transplant’

Four years after the transplant, the donated kidney has now failed due to lack of funds to procure the drugs. This break led to yet again, failure of the donated kidney. Now, getting another kidney donation is not his problem as donors are competing to donate to him but how to fund the transplant.

 

Battling the problem for the past 8 years, Mahmud Aminu Daneji, is in need of about N7million to enable him have transplant in an Indian hospital. The money would include the fee for the transplant, travelling, accommodation and feeding.

Narrating his story to Weekly Trust, Daneji, an outpatient of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital said his condition was better after the first transplant; he was surviving on assistance given to him by relatives and friends after he had exhausted all the money and assets he has on drugs. The kidney failed when he could not get the drugs for about three months.

He added: “Now I have about seven people that are ready to donate another kidney but the operation cannot be done here because of the complications. Contacts were made with an Indian hospital and they are ready to do it. What is preventing me from going is the money because I was told that for the transplant, travelling, accommodation and feeding, I need nothing less than N7 million.” Aminu cannot do any work that will earn him money now because of his condition and he has sought for assistance from the state government but is yet to get anything. His only hope according to him is in God, “I don’t have the means, I only hope in God Almighty’s help.
