Ahead of the Super Eagles’ 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarter final clash against Angola, Alex Iwobi has disclosed that captain Ahmed Musa has given the team the 2013 AFCON winning formula.
According to him, Musa gave the players insight into Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON triumph and it has stoked their desire to duplicate the feat in Ivory Coast.
Speaking during a pre-match conference yesterday, Iwobi highlighted the inspiring atmosphere that Musa had established who urged the group to stay concentrated regardless of distractions.
“Musa told us how they won the 2013 AFCON. He’s creating the same environment and everyone is hungry. He always wants us to push on and achieve that same thing.
“Musa told us that they don’t look at the outside noise. We want to do it again. We will start with the quarter-final and give our hundred per cent,” the former Arsenal and Everton star said.
Iwobi further said they are ready to exploit the weakness of Angola while advising his teammates to replicate their club forms for the national team.
“We watched their videos, we want to exploit their weaknesses. It’s going to be a tough game. They have been scoring a lot of goals, but we have been defending well.”
“I think I am the second most capped player in the team after Ahmed Musa. I advise other players to do what they have been doing in their club, just work hard and fight for your country,” he said.
