The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, IXPN,  Mr. Muhammed Rudman made the called launch of the Measurement Lab (M-Lab), a network diagnostic tool for ISPs in Nigeria.
An Internet exchange point (IXP) is a physical infrastructure that allows several Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and network operators to exchange traffic between their networks, generally referred to as autonomous systems, by means of mutual peering agreements, which allow traffic to be exchanged at no cost.
According to him, ISPs need to double their efforts at ensuring that the quality of service does not fall short.
He said in view of the critical role access to the internet is now playing in all sectors of the society, service providers need to put in place verifiable local data that can address any gap and improve on success points.
Rudman noted that mobile internet penetration in Nigeria hovers between 28%-38%, while emphasizing the fact of its growing impact on the Nigerian economy at about 7.8% contribution to the GDP in 2013 needs to be reinforced.
He said the M-Lab project is a consortium by Google and Glo 1 in recognition of the critical role of independent quality of service measurement towards achieving policy and regulatory needs.
Rudman disclosed that the process of obtaining and hosting the M-Lab Network in began in 2014 with the support of Google, an M-Lab consortium partner and Glo 1.
