The Igala Youth Leaders Assembly (IYLA) has cautioned against derogatory comments and inflammatory language directed at Igala leaders and institutions.

In a statement signed by Comrade Yahaya M. Izzuddeen, the group said the Igala people have a rich cultural heritage and a long history of resilience that should be respected and protected.

The statement expressed concern over recent public comments that the group said were disrespectful to Igala political and traditional leadership.

According to the IYLA, the Igala people should not be portrayed in a manner that diminishes their dignity, values or cultural identity.

“Our cultural heritage and history of resilience deserve to be treated with respect. We cannot accept language that undermines the image and dignity of the Igala people or their leaders,” the statement said.

The youth group noted that Igala traditional rulers and community leaders have played important roles in preserving the culture, unity and stability of the area over many generations.

It stressed that leadership and service to the community should be based on integrity, commitment and respect for the people, rather than political rivalry or personal ambition.

The group called on all political actors and stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and to avoid statements that could create division or damage the reputation of the Igala people.

“We urge everyone to express their views in a responsible manner that promotes peace, unity and mutual respect,” the statement added.

The IYLA also appealed to the public to support efforts aimed at protecting the cultural values, traditions and dignity of the Igala people.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the group’s commitment to promoting unity, respect and peaceful engagement in Igala land.
