Izala closes tafsir with plea to govt, politicians

It also  urged “highly placed government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other individuals to desist from making inflammatory statements  capable of breaching the fragile peace in the country.”
These are contained in a communiqué issued by the group at the end of its Ramadan tafsir programme at the FHA Housing Estate Mosque, Maitana, Abuja, Wednesday.
The group also called on the federal government to do everything within its power and resources to bring to an end the current insecurity in the North East and the country in general, saying“no responsible government would fold its arms and watch its defenceless citizens being massacred.
“Government at all levels should imbibe the spirit of justice, equity and fairness to its citizens as a panacea to the current security threats and challenges in the country,” it said in the communiqué.
The group, also known as Izala, with its headquarters in Jos, the Plateau State capital, further urged government to earmark enough resources to the education sector, noting that “no nation can achieve meaningful development without the provision of sound education to its citizens.”
It called on government and the private sector to “create more job opportunities for our teeming unemployed who pose serious security threat to the nation.”
The paper, signed by Malam Yahya Abubakar, said the Izala group posted 468 Islamic scholars for the Ramadan tafsir across the country and to neighbouring countries.
Dr Hassan Abubakar Dikko led a team of seven scholars posted to the FCT for the tafsir.
Special Adviser on Islamic Religious Matters to the FCT Minister, Ustaz Ibrahim Duguri, commended the Izala group for the sustained effort in propagating the religion of Allah and managers of Quito Mosque, Maitama, venue of the tafsir, for making the month-long programme a successful one.
