Dr Raymond Edoh on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Jesse Louis Jackson, describing the late cleric as a global moral compass whose lifetime struggle for justice reshaped societies across continents.

In a statement made available to journalists, Edoh said Jackson was “a towering moral voice of our time” whose courage and consistency in confronting injustice left an enduring imprint on humanity.

He noted that the American civil rights icon’s advocacy for economic empowerment and political inclusion went beyond the shores of the United States, inspiring liberation movements and democratic struggles worldwide.

“Reverend Jackson’s courage in confronting injustice and his steadfast belief in the dignity of every human being stand as a lasting legacy,” Edoh stated. “He was not merely an American leader; he was a global symbol of hope.”

Drawing parallels with his own advocacy, Edoh said both leaders share a commitment to grassroots mobilisation, faith-driven service and the empowerment of marginalised communities.

He stressed that dialogue, unity and strategic civic engagement remain critical tools in addressing social inequality, warning against divisive politics.

“Leadership is service, and service requires sacrifice,” he added. “True influence is measured not by personal gain but by the number of lives uplifted.”

Turning his attention to Nigeria, Edoh charged leaders at all levels to emulate Jackson’s courage and people-centred leadership style.

He said the country was at a critical juncture and must embrace policies that prioritise justice, youth empowerment and inclusive governance.

“Our democracy must work for the least among us. Leaders must rise above partisan interests and commit to restoring hope and reducing inequality,” he said.
